I don’t think we have a purpose, since evolution doesn’t design things. But I think your question is about what use we serve. In the beginning, we served similarly to other apes. As human, we have served to ensure that we are the top predator and so have kept the number of other predators down in the world. We also are responsible for creating a world where certain plants (vegetables, grains, fruit-producing) and animals prosper.

In science terms, no I don’t think that humans have a ‘use’ – we have simply been successful in evolutionary terms, and have occupied and made use of a wide range of ecological niches in preference to whatever might have lived there before. However, humans also have intelligence, and the capacity to form social communities. I do believe that humans have responsibilities to each other, and to society in general, in terms of the way they choose to live their lives.
