Thanks a lot; you’re too kind!! You know, a dentist told me the same thing, and he was surprised that I’d not been to the dentist in 13 years (I didn’t have any money for healthcare in the US and it ain’t cheap). There has been some research to show that the amount of enamel on teeth is genetic, but of course what you eat/drink plays a role. I have not whitened my teeth, but I also have never smoked or drank a lot of tea/coffee. But my weakness is ice cream and chocolate – just in moderation.
Is there anyone close to you that has made you want to persue this as a career? The idea of your work sounds really interesting, We’re going to vote for you:)!
Thanks! I’m glad you find it as fascinating as I do. I want to just clarify that you mean my research. Yes, I definitely came to this research topic based loosely on my own experiences. Unfortunately, I’ve seen the toll of mental illness in my family, and I have had to deal with painful childhood experiences that made me question being a good person. I overcame these and I now believe that my research can guide programmes to help others.
In terms of being a scientist, it has been a struggle to get where I am. I grew up poor. My dad never finished school. My mom finished school but only went to university when I did – she graduated a year before me and from the same university!! 🙂 I can only credit my mom, who made me value school and told me I could be anything I wanted to be.
