Interesting question! ‘Democracy’ as we see it across much of the world seems to work fairly well, but many of the traditions of government (secrecy; being accountable through a paper ballot once every five years..) are struggling to cope with the challenges of the modern instant-messaging facebook-world – just look at voter turnout for the (real!) X factor, compared to the general election, and wikileaks as two examples of serious challenges…
Many types of governments could work theoretically; there are sound theories for why they should work. However, once people get involved, the gov’ts may not work as they were theorized to work.
Democracy, with a fixed election term, (basically) proportional representation, and strict rules about media use and misuse before elections. I think that’s as good as it gets!
