You are clever for asking me to be specific. I was trying to be vague because these are results that I have just found and wanted to make sure they are real. They are real!
I asked some teenagers (16-18 years old) to do a driving simulation with their friends as passengers. I asked the others to do the driving alone. I thought that passengers would make people riskier. Not true. I was gutted.
Luckily, I had asked passengers (in an anonymous survey) whether they feel bad when they hurt other people. Also, I asked whether they would be willing to take risks. The results showed it was the teenagers with passengers who said they would take risks in doing antisocial acts who crashed more and took longer to stop (or failed to stop) at amber lights. So, teenagers driving with teenagers who are risky is more worrying than just teenagers driving with teenagers.
You are very welcome. I’m discovering new things as I go along and I love to share them! The next thing I’m doing is to see about risk taking in gambling type of activities, like pumping a balloon as big as you can get it on a computer screen. Each click earns you money! So, the next thing is to see if friends make you gamble more.
