• Question: Is nuclear power the way forward?

      I think it wil be a very important form of power in the future – if used correctly and safely, planning for decommissioning and disposal of fuel it is compares very favourably to other means of producing power.
      There are dangers as illustrated by the current situation in Japan but those plants were built in the 1970’s and modern plants reduce any risks even further.

      It already is a major part of the world’s energy supply system, but like any technology it has problems (risk, waste) which we need to balance against the benefits. It’s not ‘the way’ forward, because I expect that the most stable way forward is to have a global energy supply system that is not based just on one method of producing power.

      I think not, at least as long as we haven’t figured out what to do with the nuclear waste created in the process.

      I think that it is, since we will not soon leave our energy crisis behind. It’s very hard for everyone to cut back on their energy consumption, because every person wants a bit of what they see in the highly industrialized countries.
