      People’s sensitivity to the damage caused by cigarette smoking varies. If you have tar on the lungs for 20 years it would probably cause irreversible damage to your lungs. If the other components of the smoke damages the DNA in your cells then it won;t recover.

      Some health consequences of smoking may be reversible with time, but if you contract cancer during the first twenty years that’s not likely to leave you feeling ok after!
