I would like to be a hairdresser. It has nothing to do with science, well, maybe it does. But I think it would be fun inventing hair styles.

I also think it would be cool to be a pilot. I love flying!!

I’d probably be a photographer. I love taking photos of people and I would probably spend more time doing that. Weddings and portraits and parties – not paparazzi! I do it part-time now, but I’d be able to take photos all the time if I wasn’t a scientist.

Hi Stan – this question is much easier for me to answer now (when I have been a scientist for a while, and can look back), than it would have been when I was at school! At school I was so sure that I wanted to be a scientist that I don’t think I really thought about whether there was anything else I could do. Now, I see my students graduating from university and going off to all sorts of jobs that I never knew existed when I was at school, which is great.

Thinking about the things that I enjoy doing, and the things that I think I am good at (or not good at) I think that I would say: a journalist (I enjoy writing, searching out stories), or perhaps a civil servant (working for government) – perhaps in the foreign office or on mainland Europe (I enjoy languages, and thinking about issues). There are also a couple of things that I think I would enjoy doing (but probably wouldn’t!): one would be to run a restaurant; the other would be to be a writer..

I’d probably work as a translator. I grew up bilingual, so that would be a reasonably easy job 🙂

I’d like to do something that interests me, something that allowed me to travel as well would be good! Maybe a travel guide somewhere??
On the otherhand being a doctor would be good – it’d be nice to feel like i was helping people.
