      Only just enough! 😉

Well, I think we will have gained some knowledge since there are lots of us working together to solve problems. However, it does take some time for this knowledge to translate into a better society because science needs to be replicated, and this takes some time in my field.

The other thing to mention is that science takes money and much of the world is in a financial crisis. This may or may not affect how quickly science moves along. I hope it does not affect it too much!

Quite a lot! Every year, there are about two million scientific papers published in journals; many of these will be reporting ‘new knowledge’ – new data, ideas and interpretations.

In the field of biomedical research, over 900 000 scientific articles have been published in 2010. So, by this time next year, there will be about a million new bits of scientific knowledge. Mind you, most of it will be very, very specific and really just small advances on what we know already
