Overall, I would say a lot. In a way, my work (the studying volcanoes part of it) is something that developed out of a hobby when I was younger, so I am incredibly lucky to be doing something that I enjoy, and something that I have always wanted to do. Of course, there are ups and downs; and there are things I really enjoy doing, and things that I don’t enjoy. I enjoy teaching, for example, but don’t enjoy marking exams. I enjoy fieldwork, but don’t really enjoy being away from home. I suppose the best thing about my work is that I have the freedom to work on the problems that I want to work on.

      I love it!

It can be quite tedious at times – for instance, I used to work in a big fish lab and had to come in to feed the fish on weekends, which took hours and hours (we had tens of thousands of fish tanks that needed to be fed!)

But most of the time, it’s fun and exciting, and I would not want any other job than this!

Lots and lots. I had a job in the real world: a 9-5 job. I didn’t like it and I decided to spend my life doing my work. It’s a decision I had to make and I’m glad I tried both first.

I enjoy my work, it’s interesting, always different and often challenging. I feel like I am doing a job and working for a company that is carrying out a necessary service to the UK through safely decommissioning and reprocessing and that makes me enjoy my job more.
