I hope that I will make people understand that most so called ‘bad’ behaviour is committed by people who are not cold and callous. For example, I want to change people’s ideas about why young people do some terrible things. Many of these terrible acts come from being a youth; young people have different brains. Brain scan research shows that the young (below about age 25) have brains that are more influenced by strong emotions than adult brains are. You can imagine what kind of problems that would create, like when you’re feeling really angry!

Also, I want to encourage people to consider the treatment needs of youths. I think youths who do bad things with a cold and uncaring attitude need a different kind of treatment from others. I want to stress that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach!
