Nanotechnology certainly has its uses – from the films on self-cleaning windows, to nanoparticles in socks to reduce foot odours. But there is some evidence that once manmade nanoparticles are released into the natural enviroment there may be some unexpected consequences due the different chemical reactivity of these very small particles, compared to their properties in ‘bulk’ samples.
