There is plenty of evidence against the bible’s version, and quite a lot in favour of the Big Bang. However, it is very possible to be a Christian scientist, many people are. The key is, I think, in not seeing the bible as a literal account of what happened, but rather as a metaphoric description of things.

I can understand the scientific description of the Big Bang, and this works for me. I can’t understand what was ‘before’ the Big Bang; or what will happen ‘after’ the end of the Universe, so I can understand why people have faith in religions which may have explanations for these things. I personally can’t rationalise a literal biblical description (e.g. of the formation of the universe and the world) with what I can see as a geologist. It is certainly possible to be a Christian and a Scientist all at the same time.

I believe in the big bang, but not the bible version of events. I think it is possible to believe in god and to believe in evolution too; it depends how you interpret the events in the bible. I’ve had discussions with Christians about this, and they seem to be able to make the two things make sense together.
