It sounds plausible. Then again, it’s not my area, so it’s hard for me to think of alternatives!

Einstein’s theory of relativity has done very well, and provides the link from Newton’s laws of mechanics to the more complex models of today. Einstein’s theory makes predictions which can and have been tested, and as a result it is widely accepted.
